Annual SWPS Intensive Summer Training
As usual, in the month of July, Saanich Water Polo
School will be holding its annual intensive summer training.
The importance of summer
training, in accordance with long accepted training standards employed in
Europe, has been stressed over the years. We continue to
recommend full participation for all of our athletes.
Camp features
The camp is built on a three
week cycle where intensity increases gradually, reaching the peak level in
week four. Three separate levels/performance groups will be designated by
the coaches. The core program features: competitive swimming
speed/endurance training; basic strength training using own body weight,
Pilates techniques, running, chin up bars, skip rope; water polo training
with an emphasis on building endurance.
Fun,
too....
From time to time, players
will get a welcome break from routine with a game of soccer, European
handball, the Friday hike to Elk Lake, and the odd sandy beach
trip!
Commitment
Players - most of
you, we hope - who make a valuable commitment to all four weeks, receive a
small symbolic prize as a special recognition The greatest return
for your investment, however, lies in the strength and endurance you will
build in this process. High performance is not a "miracle state", it
is a result of pure hard work and consistency.
